Designing a back office portal to support internal operations

Background /
Fred is a back office portal to support internal operation of Nemo – a new investing application. It was built as a minimal viable product to help managing clients’ registration status, data and transactions. It also gathers real time market data from different service providers to utilise Nemo.
I withheld from disclosing and intentionally obscured confidential information in adherence to non-disclosure agreements. The opinions expressed are solely my own and might not align with the company.
Work /
• Gathered requirements from product manager, worked with business analyst and developer to design userflows
• Conducted primary research to learn from users the current workflows and pain points
• Studied CMS UI designs on the internet
• Designed site structure and user interfaces – from wireframes to prototype, and from prototype to actual MVP
• Set up design system for developers to follow through for consistency
• Worked with users to iterate the designs and optimise workflows
• Implemented new functionality to streamline work processes
Learnings /
• Learned about the technical workflows on the backend to enable the functionalities on the frontend
• Collaborated with developers and worked around technical limitations through modifying UI designs and workflows without sacrificing user experience
Limitations /
• Intended to build as a MVP
• Limited resources for development
Impact /
• The MVP version of Fred has been working since Nemo has launched
• Fred is continuously improving with users collaboration to streamline workflows to help users to work efficiently
• It is constantly evolving to include enhanced capabilities to enable different investing products
